Now Available: All 3 Guidebooks!

Day Hiking the Colorado Trail

After years of hiking and writing, we are thrilled to announce the release of all three guidebooks for Day Hiking the Colorado Trail! Just click the images below to buy the books you want.

Note that if you buy a copy, we get sales commissions and royalties from our friends at Amazon. Thanks!

Day Hiking the Colorado Trail, Volume 1: Denver to Twin Lakes

This first book covers all of the day hikes on the Colorado Trail from the east end of the trail, on the edge of metro Denver, to the little town of Twin Lakes, a bit south of Leadville – a total of 61 hikes. This full color book includes descriptions of each hike, beautiful photos from each hike, and all the practical details needed to enjoy your day hike. Driving instructions and GPS coordinates are included to make for an easy journey to your trailhead of choice. Virtually every one of these hikes is within easy driving distance of metro Denver. This makes adventures on the Colorado Trail much more accessible for many more eager hikers. Buy Volume 1 HERE.

Day Hiking the Colorado Trail, Volume 2: Twin Lakes to Monarch Pass

Our second book provides 46 hikes in the center section of the CT, often referred to as “The Collegiate Loop” along with lots of beautiful color photos. This portion of the trail extends south from Twin Lakes, on both an eastern route and a western route. The two routes meet back up at the last hike in this volume of the series, just south of Monarch Pass. The hikes vary between 1 and 18 miles, with equal numbers of relatively short hikes under 5 miles roundtrip, hikes of 5-8 miles, and longer hikes. Buy Volume 2 HERE.

Day Hiking the Colorado Trail, Volume 3: Marshall Pass to Durango

Volume 3, provides 44 hikes along the western portion of the CT, from the scrappy Cochetopa Hills area through the San Juan Mountains to Durango, and is loaded with color photos. The hikes include a nice mix of lengths from less than a mile to more than fifteen with the largest number of hikes being between 4-8 miles round trip. Each hike includes information about how to get there (including GPS coordinates), parking, features, terrain, length, and elevation. Buy Volume 3 HERE.

We believe each of our guidebooks will help hikers enjoy the Colorado Trail in a whole new way. We’ve made getting time on this majestic trail so much easier for everyone. Whether you are looking for a short wander in the woods with young children, or you are training for a multi-night backpacking trip on the trail, these books can set you up for success!

Why Three Guidebooks?

We have divided our day hikes into three books that cover three different regions that access the Colorado Trail because one book would have been too large and prohibitively expensive. This way, those who live in, or are visiting one of the regions, can purchase a more affordable book that provides hikes for that region. Of course, many fans of hiking in Colorado, or of the Colorado Trail itself, will want all three!

Where to buy the books at a real store:

Our books are available on Amazon and in local bookstores:

For Volume 1, if you are in Leadville, author-signed copies are available at The Rock Hut; in Denver, look for copies at The Mushroom Classroom; in Silverthorne, you can find Volume 1 at the Forest Service Ranger Station on Blue River Parkway.

For Volume 2, copies are available in Buena Vista at The Trailhead and at Once Upon a Trapeze Bookstore.

All three books are now available at REI in Dillon, in the gift shop of the Hotel St. Nicholas in Cripple Creek, the Summit Historical Society’s Dillon Schoolhouse Museum (they also sell books at the Dillon Farmer’s Market every Saturday through the summer), and at The Rock Hut in downtown Leadville. We look forward to getting the books into more local bookstores soon. You can also special order a copy of any of the books through your local bookstore. If you have suggestions about stores that might stock our books, email us at DayHikingtheColoradoTrail@gmail.com!

PS: If you buy a book, we would be so grateful if you wrote a review of it on Amazon after receiving it. Thanks in advance for your support!

I'm an avid gold prospector, hiker and traveler. I am the author of a series of books about gold in Colorado - both the historical landmarks worth visiting and the modern day prospecting opportunities. The series called “Finding Gold In Colorado” and can be found in stores across Colorado and on Amazon.
